Over the last six years I have worked with leaders and their teams from all over the world. And I kept coming across the same issues, people working hard, achieving success, with ambition and drive but it came at a cost to their wellbeing and wasn't sustainable; they couldn’t switch off, they were developing anxieties, felt overloaded and under pressure. They didn’t see enough of their families let alone friends and felt guilty for not giving their job or their family 100%. They felt out of control and sometimes trapped in this cycle. Some liked the pressure but somehow it would become all-consuming and give rise to stress and burnout.
This often led to poor sleep, poor eating habits, no movement, decreasing performance at work, increased time off, low motivation and eventually burn out. Many were suffering in silence. People were surviving on the absolute minimum instead of thriving and living their lives to the full.
None of these issues happen overnight, they happen over time, when we are solely focused on the day to day deadlines, the meetings, family life, full diaries, going from one thing to another, our once healthy habits change slowly to adapt to our fast paced life.
We don't take the time to stop... to reflect.. to recalibrate. We are too busy!
I am a strong believer that if we were all to take some time to pause and reflect on how we are feeling and doing every few months, then we could quickly reset the dial and tweak things so that small issues don't continue and snowball into bigger issues impacting on our health, happiness and quality of life.
Likewise, with our goals, if we are clear on our big life goals and we broke them down into smaller more achievable goals that we regularly check in on, then we are able to celebrate our successes or adjust things if we have not met our goals. Taking time to reflect and recalibrate really is key to continued success, whether it is for our health, career or any other goal that we have.

Pre-call Exercise: THE CIRCLE OF LIFE
The Circle is an exercise I do with my clients when we first start working together. I ask them to think about each area of their life and to put a dot on the diagram to indicate the level of satisfaction in that area, the happier they are in that area, the nearer the periphery they would put their dot, then they join the dots to make their 'Circle of Life'.
If someone is really happy and fulfilled in all areas of their life then their circle will be large and circular, this is the long term aim, but most people will have an unbalanced 'circle' when they first work with me. This gives us a really good starting point of where we need to focus to bring more balance and fulfilment into their lives.
